Windsurfing: Felixstowe Dip Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: F4+ Surf / Sea State: MODERATE Air Temperature: WARM Sea Temperature: WARM Weather: SUNNY Max Speed: 24.79 kts (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 3.9 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Arrived dip 6 ish with Squiz and DC packing up after a good sail. 2 people
out on big sails 8.0M but it did look windy in the wind band.
Me and Swainy rigged big 8.5 / 146L, not much time to faff around - so
flattened the sail as much as possible, but alas on my first run I was
blown away well over as I hit the wind band. I hate cam sails in rough
water and the river was at least 6 foot.
With nowhere to attempt the gybe, I went too far out and fell in. It was a
nightmare to get the cams to rotate for water starting so gave up and
uphauled in the rough water.
Now regretting I went windsurfing:
Made it back to the land - Chris changed to 6M but Nick and Swainy stayed
on 8.0 so I must be losing strength in old age. Had a couple more runs but
I was too overpowered and it was too late to change down.
OK sail but no calorie burner at 3.9nm!
Had a decent broad reach near the beach and flat water clocking 24.79 on
the JP146 Excite ride pro.
Tried my new 2014 North shoxs (exchange scheme) and can recommend it. Its
slightly heavier, but more robust, and it didn't bottom out in the big seas
like the 2012 Model.
Easy to rig also as the crank is large. Def cranking down the sail you have
to be careful not to snap the mast! its bloody powerful, so stick
manufacturers recommendations!
Nice sunny evening but the wind swung off and Swainy said it was gusty and
over the top on the outside so packed up.
Not my best sail... but others had a good time. Not sure how the hell Dave
Coles clung on 11M on his formula, the sea was big near the river and too
windy.
